چکیده

Multipoint relays o er an optimized way of ooding packets in a radio network. However, this technique requires the last hop knowledge: to decide wether or not a ooding packet is retransmitted, a node needs to know from which node the packet was received. When considering broadcasting at IP level, this information may be di cult to obtain. We thus propose a scheme for computing an optimized connected dominating set frommultipoint relays. This set allows to e ciently broadcast packets without the last hop information with performances close to multipoint relay ooding. On the Application of Mobility Predictions to Multipoint Relaying in MANETs: Kinetic Multipoint Relays

In this paper, we discuss the improvements multipoint relays may experience by the use of mobility predictions. Multipoint Relaying (MPR) is a technique to reduce the number of redundant retransmissions while diffusing a broadcast message in the network. The algorithm creates a dominating set where only selected nodes are allowed to forward packets. Yet, the election criteria is solely based on...

An Enhanced Approach to Determine A Small Forward Node Set Based on Multipoint Relays

Multipoint relays (MPR) [2] provide a localized and optimized way of determining a small forward node set for broadcasting messages in an ad hoc network. Using 2hop neighborhood information, each node determines a small set of forward neighbors to relay messages. Selected forward nodes form a connected dominating set (CDS) to ensure full coverage. Recently, Adjih, Jacquet, and Viennot [1] propo...

Bi-connectivity, k-connectivity and Multipoint Relays

Multipoint relays were introduced to optimize flooding in ad hoc networks. They are also used to determine a sub-topology containing shortest paths in the OLSR routing protocol. We show that a generalized version of multipoint relays can be used to construct a sub-topology preserving bi-connectivity and more generally k-connectivity. Moreover, we show that the multipoint relay structure is intr...

Comparison of optimized flooding techniques

Flooding is an often used technique to distribute messages in a mobile ad hoc networks(MANETs). Each node in the network retransmits the message, so long as it receives one. The problem of this mechanism is the huge redundancy of messages. Several mechanisms are proposed in order to limit or optimize the flooding in MANET. In this paper we will discuss two of them: multipoint relays(MPRs) and c...

Multipoint Relaying for Flooding Broadcast Messages in Mobile Wireless Networks

In this paper we discuss the mechanism of multipoint relays (MPRs) to efficiently do the flooding of broadcast messages in the mobile wireless networks. Multipoint relaying is a technique to reduce the number of redundant re-transmissions while diffusing a broadcast message in the network. We discuss the principle and the functioning of MPRs, and propose a heuristic to select these MPRs in a mo...
